Equestrians Take Seventeen Ribbons in Top Four; Lucy McAuliffe Takes Reserve Champion High Point Rider Title

Northampton, MA: The Equestrian team competed at the Amherst IHSA Show today held at Biscuit Hill Farm in Shelburn, Massachusetts and came home with seventeen ribbons in top four placings and a Reserve Champion High Point Rider title.

The University of Massachusetts was High Point College with 47 points followed by Mount Holyoke with 41. The Pioneers finished third out of twelve schools with 33 points.

Sophomore Lucy McAuliffe (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ), who ended the day tied with five other equestrians, earned Reserve Champion High Point Rider after winning a very competitive 5-person ride off while senior Laura Schneider (Roscoe, MT) qualified for Regionals in walk, trot.

Winning blue ribbons for Smith were Sophia Geller (Brookline, MA) in novice flat; Caitlin Hunter (Downington, PA) in intermediate over fences; Anya Bahros (Norwell, MA) in novice over fences; Joanne Winker (Arlington, MA) in walk, trot, canter; Schneider in walk, trot and McAuliffe in novice flat.

Bringing home second place red ribbons were McAuliffe in intermediate over fences; Kelly Hulyk (Medford, MA) in beginner walk, trot, canter; and Mary Bordewieck (Bernardston, MA) in novice flat.

Yellow ribbons were won by Rebecca Sandall (Thetford Center, VT) in walk, trot, canter and Bahros in intermediate flat while Nicole Haseltine (Los Angeles, CA) took fourth in open flat and fences and Joo Yeon Shin (Chandler, AZ) in walk, trot.

Alumnae Clare Hay, Tyler Hotchkiss and Lizzy Jacobson also competed today and finished second in flat and jumping, third on the flat and fourth in jumping respectively.

The Equestrians will compete again on Saturday, November 7 when they travel to Mount Holyoke.
