19 Riders Win 20 Top 4 Ribbons; Bahros Qualifies for Resgionals
Northampton, MA: The Smith equestrians had twenty top four finishes today and took fifth place with 27 points out of 13 schools at their home show. Mount Holyoke College was the High Point College with 37 points while University of Massachusetts-Amherst finished as Reserve High Point College with 35 points.
Abigail Milnor-Sweetser (Lancaster, PA) and Caitlin Hunter (Downington, PA) each brought home a blue ribbon in intermediate fences, Anya Bahros (Norwell, MA) and Lucy McAuliffe (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) won blues in novice flat while Marguerite Davenport (Mill Valley, CA) was the fifth rider to bring home a first place ribbon in novice fences. Bahros, a junior, was the only rider to qualify for Regionals. She will compete in novice flat. A second place ribbon was won by Nicole Haseltine (Los Angeles) in open flat who also took sixth in open over fences.
McAuliffe in intermediate fences, both Joo Yeon Shin (Chandler, AZ) and Laura Schneider (Roscoe, MT) in walk,trot, Rebecca Sandall (Thetford Center, VT) in beginner walk,trot, cantor, Abigail Cooper (Chalfant, PA) in open flat and Abigail Gifford (Rutland, VT) & Madeline Smart (Mountlake Terrace, WA) in walk, trot, cantor took third place ribbons while Cooper, Hunter and Joanne Winkler (Arlington, MA) placed fourth.
In the alumnae category, Elizabeth Jacobson won a blue ribbon in alumnae flat and a red ribbon in alumnae fences while Clare Hey won a red ribbon in alumnae flat and took a third place ribbon in alumnae fences.
Following Mt. Holyoke and UMass were Amherst with 32 points, College of Holy Cross with 28 points and Smith with 27. Two second place ribbons were the difference between the top schools.
The Smith equestrians will compete again on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Amherst/Williams Show.
