Cross-Country Finishes Fifth at NEWMAC Championship
Northampton, MA: Senior Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA) finished in eighth place while the team took fifth at the 2009 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Cross-Country Championship today held in Franklin Park.
MIT won the race with 18 points and had the individual winner, Maria Monks, who finished the 5k course in 18:32. Wellesley took second (75 points); Springfield third (113), Coast Guard fourth (117), Smith (133) fifth, WPI sixth (163), Babson seventh (201), Wheaton eighth (205), Mount Holyoke ninth (248) and Clark tenth with 260 points.
Scoring for the Pioneers were Dzialo, who finished the race in 19:34, followed by sophomore Kristin Peck (Glenmont, NY) in 29th place (21:01), first year Raquel Lemire (Portland, OR) in 34th place (21:13), first year Shannon MacKenzie (Hopkinton, NH) in 41st place (21:26) and sophomore Emma Yourd (Pittsburgh, PA) in 53rd place (21:53). Also racing today was sophomore Uli Botzojorns (Bolton, VT) who finshed 61st in 22:09.
The Pioneers will conclude their season on Saturday, November 14 when they race in the NCAA Regionals at the University of Southern Maine.
