Smith Volleyball Falls to Wellesley 3-0 in Regular Season Finale
Northampton, MA: Smith Volleyball lost 3-0 (16-25, 10-25, 19-25) to NEWMAC rival Wellesley this afternoon to close out the regular season. With the loss, Smith falls to 12-19 overall and (5-4)in conference competition. Wellesley improves to 24-6 overall and (8-1) in NEWMAC play.
Leading Smith in kills with 4 each were junior Bethany Weiss (Windham, NH), junior Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN) and senior Courtney Parker (Berlin, MD). Additionally, Weiss contributed a blocked shot and 1 service ace while Minarich contributed 1 service ace and 7 digs and Parker added 1 blocked shot. Junior Brianne Connizzo (Demarest, NJ) led the Pioneers defensively with 11 digs. Rachel Lackert (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) also contributed 7 digs.
Leading Wellesley was Jessica Duff (Milton, Abingdon, UK) and Alice Cummings (Tallahassee, FL) with 10 and nine kills respectively, followed by Heather Mellquist (Baltimore, OH) with five. Amanda Duritsch (Troy, OH) chipped in three kills and three blocks. Emily Peters (Temescal Valley, CA) led all players with 18 digs.
The Pioneers will be back in action Tuesday, November 4 at 7pm at Coast Guard as they compete in the NEWMAC Championship Quarterfinals. Also competing in the Quarterfinals will be Wheaton at Wellesley.
