Smith Drops Tight Match to Tufts in Hall of Fame Tournament Opener

Northampton, MA: In a match that kicked off the annual Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament, the Pioneers fell in a very close match to the Jumbos of Tufts University 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21). With the loss Smith falls to 11-15 on the year while Tufts raised its overall record to 23-1.

For the Pioneers, Lauren Martinez (Phoenix, AZ) contributed 17 sets, 9 digs, and 5 kills. Courtney Faria (Bourne, MA) added 14 digs, 13 assists, and 1 service ace. Teammate Allie Rissi (Scottsdale, AZ) contributed 7 kills and 3 service aces. Additionally, Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN) finished the evening with 9 kills and 9 digs, while Bethany Weiss (Windham, NH) contributed 7 kills and 2 service aces. Defensively, Brianne Connizzo (Demarest, NJ) had 17 digs.

The Pioneers will return to action Saturday at 10 am for day two of the tournament.
