Volleyball Falls to Springfield

Northampton, MA: Springfield College remained unbeaten in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) volleyball competition as they defeated the Pioneers 3-0 last night. The Pride improved to 23-4 overall and 7-0 in the NEWMAC while Smith fell to 11-14 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

In the first game, Springfield jumped out to an early 9-5 lead but Smith battled back to make it 13-10. The Pride then ran off 13 of the next 14 points and won the set 25-13.  The second and third sets mirrored the first as Springfield built early leads and won 25-15 and 25-14 respectively. 

Senior Courtney Parker (Berlin, MD) had five kills, setter Lauren Martinez (Phoenix, AZ) 11 assists and defensive specialist Rachel Lackert (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) 8 digs in the Smith loss.

The Pioneers will host the Hall of Fame Invitational this weekend with matches at 5 & 7 pm on Friday and 10 am, noon, 2 & 4 pm on Saturday.
