Smith Volleyball Competes at MIT Tournament

Northampton, MA: Smith went 1-3 on the weekend, moving their record to 5-9 on the season. On Friday night they defeated Wesleyan College in 5 sets (20-25, 27-25, 26-28, 25-23, 15-12). In the second match of the night Connecticut College defeated the Pioneers 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-18). Saturday Smith loss to Bates 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-19) and Wellesley 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-15).

Against Wesleyan Mickal Minarich (Hobart, IN) led Smith with 13 digs, 10 kills, 5 aces, and 2 blocks. Additionally, Stephanie Bleyendaal (Wellesley, MA) and Jacqueline Sparagna (Los Angeles, CA) each added 6 kills. Defensively, Brianne Connizzo (Demarest, NJ) collected 11 digs.

In their second match of the night, against Connecticut College, Connizzo had 8 digs while Alexandra Rissi (Scottsdale, AZ) had 2 kills. Additionally, Lauren Martinez (Pheonix, AZ) contributed 2 kills and 2 service aces.

Against Bates, Courtney Parker (Berlin, MD) had 6 kills while Martinez added 8 assists, and Connizzo finished with 15 digs. In their final match of the weekend versus Wellesley, Martinez led the Pioneers with 10 assists while Minarich added 4 kills.

Smith returns to action Tuesday September 30th as they host Wheaton for a 7 pm start.
