Track Athletes Compete at ECAC Championship
Northampton, MA: Eight track & field athletes competed at the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Springfield College and finished 14th place out of 55 institutions.
Entering the meet ranked first, first year Ruby Western (Burlington, VT) held on to that title by finishing first in the discus with a throw of 41.26m. Junior Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA) placed third in the pole vault with a jump of 3.75m (12'3.5). She is now tied for ninth in the nation. Senior Caitlin Ritchie (Meriden, CT) was 8th in the javelin with a throw of 35.24 (115'7). Rounding out Smith's performance were the 4x100 relay team who finished with a season best time of 49.71 and an 11th place finish. The team was comprised of first years Katie Eison-Washington (Portland, OR) and Mary Cote (Gardiner, MT), sophomore Uzuri Sims (San Diego, CA) and senior Claire Edwards (Klamath Falls, OR).
This meet concludes the season for everyone except Grover-Silva who provisionally qualified for the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship to be held at Marietta College in Marietta, OH. Her selection won't be official until Monday.
