Track & Field with a Successful Outing at Mount Holyoke Invitational
Northampton, MA: Eight Pioneers qualified for the New England Division III Championships with their performances this afternoon at the Mount Holyoke College Track & Field Invitational.
Nora Youngs '09 (Penacook, NH) broke the Mount Holyoke complex record in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:45.87 earning her the first-place finish and qualifying for New England Division III Championship and ECAC Championships. Anna Cressotti '10 (Southampton, MA) took first in the 800 meter with a New England Division III Championship qualifying time of 2:21.49. Mary Cote '12 (Gardiner, MT) finished first in the long jump with a distance of 5.10m (16'8.75'') which qualifies her for the New England Division III Championships. Cote also qualified for New Englands in the triple jump with a second place distance of 10.10m (33'1.75'') Etta Grover-Silva '10 (Arcata, CA) qualified for New England's and ECACs with her 1st place jump of 3.51m (11'6.25''). Shakwana Etienne '11 (W. Orange, NJ) took first in the shot put with a throw of 10.76m (35ft 3.75in) qualifying for New Englands. Ruby Western's '12 (Burlington, VT) first-place finish in discus (38.77m / 127'2'') also earned her a spot in the New England Division III Championships and ECACs. Caitlin Ritchie '09 (Meriden, CT) finished second in the javelin with a distance of 35.18 m (115'5'') qualifying for New Englands and ECACs.
Smith also finished first in the 1500 meter as Leonora Pepper '09 (Arlington, MA) crossed the line at 5:36.68. Alina Ainyette '09 (South Orange, NJ) took first in the 400 meter with a time of 1:03.21. Claire Edwards '09 (Klamath Falls, OR), Ritchie, Cote, and Kaitlin Eison-Washington '12 (Portland, OR) finished first in the 4x100 meter relay with a team best time of 51.08. Jasmine Liverpool '10 (Brooklyn, NY), Ainyette, Anna Leversee '12 (Keene, NH), and Alice Kaufman '12 (Medford, MA) took first in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:28.07.
Smith track & field will be back in action Saturday, April 11 at 10am as they travel to Willimantic, CT for the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational.
