Track & Field Performs Well at Trinity Invitational

Northampton, MA: The 2009 outdoor track and field team had many outstanding individual performances today at the non-team scoring Trinity Invitational.

The throwers had a great day for the Pioneers that included many personal bests.  Sophomore Shakwana Etienne (West Orange, NJ) finished 5th in the shot with a personal throw of 11.77 that qualified her for the New England III and ECAC Championships. She set personal bests in the shot with her 11th place finish (31.43) and hammer (7th place, 33.82) improving her distances by 3.65m and 12.38m respectively.  First year Ruby Western (Burlington, VT), competing in the discus for the first time in her collegiate career, finished 2nd (36.14) and qualified for NE III's and ECAC's and was 7th in the shot put (11.25) that also qualified her for NE III's. She also finished 6th in the hammer with a personal best throw of 35.01. Catherine McGuinness (Fairfax, VT) finished 5th in the hammer (36.28m).Other New England III qualifiers and PR's were Anna Cressotti (Southampton, MA) in the 1500m (2nd place, 4:49.17); Uzuri Sims (San Diego, CA) in the 400m HH (2nd place, 1:09.19); Alina Ainyette (South Orange, NJ) in the 400m (2nd place, 1:02.82); and Kaitlin Eison-Washington (Portland, OR) in the 100m, 5th place, in 13.38. Caitlin Ritchie (Meriden, CT), 5th in the javelin, qualified for NE III's with a throw of 38.84m.

Angela Cote (Gardiner, MT) placed 4th in the long jump (4.75m) and 6th in the triple jump (9.98m) and Jean Egger (Stockholm, WI) finished 5th in the pole vault (2.44m).

The 4x100m relay team comprised of Claire Edwards (Klamath Falls, OR), Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA), Eison-Washington and Cote finished 3rd in 52.12 which was a NE III and Open New England qualifying time while the 4x400m relay (Ainyette, Anna Leversee (Keene, NH), Sims and Kristin Peck (Bethlehem, NY) finished 4th in 4:16.27 that also qualified them for both NE III and Open New Englands.
