Grover-Silva Sets New Record at MIT Invitational

Northampton, MA: Junior Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA) set a new Smith record today winning the pole vault at the non-team scoring MIT Track & Field Invitational. Grover-Silva broke her own record set last year with a new mark of 12'5 1/4".

Mary Cote (Gardiner, MT) ran a season best and finished fifth in the 55m in 7.73 while Claire Edwards (Klamath Falls, OR) placed 7th in 7.85 with both women qualifying for the New England III Championships.  Other personal bests in the 55m were achieved by Kaitlin Eison-Washington (Portland, OR) in 8th place (7.88); Grover-Silva in 9th (7.93), Jessie Katz (Queens, NY) 16th (8.14) and Kristin Morgan (Carlisle, MA) 24th (8.75).  Senior Alina Ainyette (South Orange, NJ) ran a season best 28.22 in the 200m and finished 9th overall.

First year Kristen Peck (Bethlehem, PA) finished second in the 1000m in 3:06.41 and qualified for the ECAC and New England III Championships.  Senior Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) took fourth in the mile in 5:30.54 which qualified her for the New England III Championships.  Eison-Washington, Ainyette, Cote and Uzuri Sims (San Diego, CA) combined in the 4x200m relay and won the event in 1:51.02.  Cote qualified for the ECAC's with her third place jump of 5.09m in the long jump.  Alex Rissi (Scottsdale, AZ), Shakwana Etienne (West Orange, NJ) and Ruby Western (Burlington, VT) all had season best performances in the high jump (1.35m), shot put (10.99m) and weight throw (11.72m) respectively.
