Smith Finishes 3rd in Tartan Invitational
Northampton, MA: At the Tartan Invitational, where 13 women's and 11 men's teams competed, the Pioneers finished 3rd in the women's competitions. Smith had 5 athletes meet qualifying standards.
Top performers for the Pioneers included Uzuri Sims (San Diego, CA) who qualified for DIIINE in both the 400m with a first place finish and time of 1:01.83 and the 200m with a fourth place finish and time of 27.66, Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) who qualified for both DIIINE and ECAC in the 3000m with a time of 10:48.73 and a third place finish, Angela Mary Cote (Gardiner, ME) qualifying for the DIIINE in the long jump and triple jump with 4.99 meters (first place) and 10.14 meters (second place) respectively and Kristin Peck (Bethlehem, NY) qualifying for DIIINE in the mile with a time of 5:25.38 and a second place finish.
Smith also scored points in the 4x200 relay with a second place finish. The relay team was comprised of Katie Eison-Washington (Portland OR), Alina Ainyette (West Orange, NJ), Caitlin Ritchie (Meriden, CT) and Cote. Their time was 1:52.11, an ECAC qualifying standard. Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA) took first place in the pole vault event with 3.51 meters. Jean Egger (Stockholm, WI) finished fourth in the pole vault with 2.59 meters. Peck also finished fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:32.94.
Also scoring points for the Pioneers was Ruby Western (Burlington, VT) finishing sixth in the shot put with a distance of 9.85 meters followed by Shakwana Etienne (West Orange, NJ) with an eighth place finish and distance of 9.57 meters and Catherine McGuiness (Fairfax, VT) with a ninth place finish and distance of 9.41 meters. Additionally, Cote placed sixth in the 200m with a time of 28.24 followed by Ainyette with a time of 28.83 and an eleventh place finish. Ainyette also finished eighth in the 400m with a time of 1:04.90.
Smith is back in action Saturday, February 14th as they travel to the MIT Invitational at 10 AM.
