Track & Field Takes Third Place at Southern Maine Invitational
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers finished 3rd overall at the Southern Maine Invitational held Saturday at the University of Southern Maine with 113 points behind host University of Southern Maine with 175.50 points and top finisher Bates College with 219 points.
Pole vaulter Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA) led the way for Smith taking home first place with a height of 3.66m. Jean Egger (Stockholm, WI) placed 4th with a height of 2.59m qualifying her for the Division III NE. Also qualifying for Division III NE was Kristin Peck (Bethlehem, NY) in the Mile race with a time of 5:31.70 and a 5th place finish.
Top finishers for Smith included long jumper Mary Cote (Gardiner, MT) with a first place finish and season best mark of 4.95m, Uzuri Sims (San Diego, CA) in the 400m with a season best time of 1:02.28 and a 2nd place finish, Alina Ainyette (South Orange, NJ) with a 3rd place finish and time of 1:48.69 in the 600m, Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) with a third place finish in the 3000m with a time of 11:27.29 and Katie Eison-Washington (Portland, OR) in the 55m dash with a time of 7.93 and a 3rd place finish.
The Pioneers took home 1st place in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:54.71 put up by Caitlin Ritchie (Meriden, CT), Etta Grover-Silva, Katie Eison-Washington and Mary Cote. In the 4x400 relay, Anna Leversee (Keene, NH), Alina Ainyette, Uzuri Sims and Alice Kaufman (Medford, MA) finished second with a season best time of 4:22.66.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday, Feb. 7th as they host the Tartan Invitational at 10AM.
