Smith Tennis Competes at NEWITT
Northampton, MA: This weekend Smith tennis has several athletes competing inthe New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT).
During Friday's action, the duo of Nawal Mays (Niskayuna, NY) and Maggie Steiner (Madison, CT) were defeated 2-1 by Ria Chada and Nina Levine of Brandeis. Head to head in doubles, Mays and Steiner fell in a close 8-5 match. In singles, Levine defeated Mays 6-2, 6-0, while Steiner defeated Chada 6-1, 6-1. Later in the day, Steiner and Mays defeated the duo of Thuy Lee and Katelyn Paquette of Suffolk 3-0. In doubles, Steiner and Mays won 8-3. In singles, Mays defeated Lee 6-2, 6-1 while Steiner defeated Paquette 6-1, 6-0.
In other action, the Smith pair of Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, IL) and Gianna Teague (Gahanna, OH) fell 3-0 to the duo of Hillary Rosen of Tufts and Katy Hillianan of Simmons. The doubles match-up featured a tight match won by Rosen/Hillianan with a score of 8-5. In singles, Rosen defeated Inskeep in a highly competitive match 6-4, 2-6, 10-7. Additionally, Hallinan defeated Teague 6-4, 6-3.
The tournament continues on Saturday and Sunday.
