Tennis Defeats Clark 8-1

Northampton, MA: In their last dual match of the fall 2008 season, the Pioneers defeated Clark University 8-1 to earn the sixth seed in the 2008 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship.

The Pioneers will face the third seed, Wheaton College, on October 25th at 11 am at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.  If the team is successful, they will advance to the semifinals at 9:30 am on Sunday, October 26 and face the second seed, MIT.  The championship match will take place on Sunday, October 26 at 1 p.m.

In yesterday's match at Clark, the doubles teams swept all their matches while the singles lost just one match.

Doubles
1)  Diana Fiumefreddo (Winchester, MA)/Clair Oblamski (Elm Grove, WI) defeated
        Phoebe Livingston/Rebecca Friedberg, 8-2
2)  Jaime Inskeep (Warrenville, IL)/Gianna Teague (Gahanna, OH) defeated Emily 
       Schweitzer/Willa Dunn, 8-3
3)  Mindy Chu (Los Altos, CA)/Nawal Mays (Albany, NY) defeated Julia Bergeron
      and Rebecca Good, 8-1

Singles
1) Fiumefreddo defeated Friedberg, 6-2, 6-1
2) Teague lost to  Bergeron, 3-6, 1-6
3) Inskeep defeated Dunn, 6-0, 6-0
4) Nikki Anderson (Sherborn, MA) defeated Livingston, 6-2, 6-2
5) Chu defeated Good, 6-0, 6-0
6) Melissa Wong (Portsmouth, OH) defeated Jenni Adams, 6-1, 6-3
