Smith Tennis Bows to MIT

Northampton, MA: The Smith College Pioneers fell to MIT this afternoon 8-1 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. With the victory, the Engineers improved to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the NEWMAC while Smith fell to 1-5 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

In the Pioneers best performance of the day, first year's Gianna Teague (Gahanna, OH) and Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, IL) teamed up at number two doubles to defeat Anisa McCree and Melissa Diskin of MIT 9-7.  In other doubles action, Diana Fiumefreddo (Winchester, VA) and Clair Oblamski (Elm Grove, WI) lost 8-0 at number one and Nawal Mays (Niskayuna, NY) and Mindy Chu (Los Altos, CA) fell at number three by the same score. MIT swept the singles matches.

1.  Fiumefreddo/Oblamski lost to Leslie Hansen/Anastasia Vishnevetsky, 8-0
2. Teague/Inskeep defeated McCree/Diskin, 9-7
3.  Mays/Chu lost to Karina Pikhart/Yi Wang, 8-0

Singles
1.  Teague lost to Hansen, 6-0, 6-0
2. Inskeep lost to Vishnevetsky, 6-0, 6-1
3.  Nikki Anderson lost to Diskin, 6-1, 6-1
4.  Chu lost to Wang, 6-2, 6-2
5.  Melissa Wong lost to Anisa McCree, 6-0, 6-4
6.  Ally Hawkins lost to Alex Hall, 6-4, 6-1
