Smith Tennis Bows to Mount Holyoke

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell 3-6 to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and valley rival Mount Holyoke College this evening. With the loss, Smith fell to 0-3 overall and in conference play while the Lyons improved to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the NEWMAC.

First year Gianna Teague (Gahanna, OH) won at number two singles for the Pioneers as did Mindy Chu (Los Altos, CA) at number four and Nikki Anderson (Sherborn, MA) at five singles. Teague and partner Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, IL) lost a close match at second doubles.  The Pioneers travel to Wheaton College on Saturday for a 1 pm NEWMAC contest.

Doubles
1.  Diana Fiumefreddo/Nawal Mays (SC) lost to Ashley Fallon/Elise Marifian, 8-3
2. Teague/Inskeep (SC) lost to Sarah London/Beatrix Hartmann, 8-9, 2-7
3.  Chu/Clair Oblamski (SC) lost to Natalie Hsiang/Heather Richardson, 8-3

Singles
1.  Fiumefreddo lost to Fallon, 4-6, 1-6
2. Teague defeated Marifian, 6-0,. 1-6, 6-3
3.  Inskeep lost to Hsiang, 4-6, 6-7 (4-7)
4. Chu defeated London, 6-1, 6-1
5. Anderson defeated Elizabeth Tighe, 6-2, 6-1
6. Ally Hawkins lost to Beatrix Hartmann, 7-5, 3-6, 3-6
