Smith Tennis Bows Out of ITA Women's Northeast Region Championship

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers sent four of its top athletes to compete in this weekend's Division III Wilson/ITA Women's Northeast Region Championship sponsored by the intercollegiate tennis association and hosted by MIT. Nawal Mays (Niskayuna, NY), Dianna Fiumefreddo (Winchester, NY), Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, IL), and Gianna Teague (Gahanna, OH) all fell in their friday night matches.

In a singles match-up Mays lost to Melissa Weinstein of Springfield with scores of 6-0, 6-2. In Smith's other singles match-up Fiumefreddo lost to Clare Burke of Middlebury 6-1, 6-2. On the double side, Inskeep and Teague fell to Grace Chen and Marie Watanaba of Wellesley 8-1.

Due to inclement weather the tournament was forced indoors. Due to the reduced number of courts the consolation brackets were eliminated.

The tennis team returns to action Tuesday, September 30th when they host Mount Holyoke with a 4 pm start.
