Swimming & Diving Defeats Westfield State 176-122
Northampton, MA: The Smith College Swimming and Diving team defeated Westfield State, 176-122, this afternoon in Northampton, MA. With the win the Pioneers improve to 2-2 in dual match competition, while the Owls fall to 2-1.
Lenora Walter '11 (Santa Ynez, CA) had three first-place finishes for the Pioneers this afternoon--100 yard backstroke (1:04.52); 200 yard backstroke (2:18.90); and the 200 yard IM (2:26.97). Reyana Levine '11 (Kalamazoo, MI) would have had three first-place finishes if not for Walter as she took first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.92), the 200 yard breaststroke (2:41.97), but took second to Walter in the 200 yard IM finishing nine tenths of a second behind her (2:27.06).
Lily Seidman '11 (Westfield, IN) took first in the 200 yard butterfly (2:16.04) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:38.76). Christine Dzialo '10 (Belchertown, MA) placed first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.61 and the 100 yard freestyle at 58.35.
Francesca Kotey '09 (Gainesville, FL) and Hannah Bromfield (Brookline, MA) took one and two in the 50 yard freestyle at 26.30 and 26.46, while teammates Faith Latella '10 (Douglastown, NY) and Rachel Dorset '10 (Stratford, CT) placed first and second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.46 and 1:07.46). Kotey also finished second in the 100 yard freestyle (58.61).
Smith also placed first, and third, in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Dorset, Cordelia McGehee (Roseville, MN), Kotey, and Seidman took first (3:58.09), while Bromfield, Alex Page '12 (Ardsley, NY), Carly Mailly '12 (West Hartford, CT), and Dzialo finished third.
Diving for the Pioneers Alexis-Clair Roehrich '11 (Eau Claire, WI) placed first in both the 1 meter (234.75) and 3 meter dives (218.60).
