Swimming and Diving Falls to Springfield in Season Opener
Northampton, MA: Although the Smith College Swimming and Diving team lost its' season opener to Springfield College 159-126, the Pioneers swam a great first meet and have shown that they have much to look forward to in their meets to come. Smith's dual meet record falls to 0-1 on the season, while Springfield College improves to 1-0.
Lily Seidman '11 (Westfield, IN) began the 2008-'09 season right where she left off in 2007-'08 taking first-place finishes in all three of her races--200 yard butterfly (1:14.57), 100 yard butterfly (1:02.55), and the 200 yard backstroke (2:20.34). Lenora Walter '11 (Santa Ynez, CA) placed first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.80) and the 200 yard IM (2:28.19), while taking third-place in the 200 yard backstroke (2:22.76). Finishing first in the 50 yard freestyle (26.40) was Francesca Kotey '09 (Gainesville, FL). Alexis Roehrich '11 (Eau Claire, WI) took first-place in the 3 meter dive with a score of 217.85 and third in the 1 meter dive scoring 209.95.
Reyna Levine '11 (Kalamazoo, MI), Jenny Prince '12 (Ardsley, NY), Alex Page '12 (Brookline, MA), and Cordelia McGehee (Roseville, MN) all had great swims today for the Pioneers as they performed lifetime, or near lifetime, bests in their respective races.
The Pioneers will be back in the pool Saturday, November 15 as they host Eastern Connecticut State University at 1 pm.
