Swimming & Diving Takes 9th at the NEWMAC Championships
Northampton, MA: The Smith College Swimming & Diving team competed at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Championships this weekend at MIT in Cambridge, MA.
Smith diver, Alexis Roehrich '11 (Eau Claire, WI), had a solid performance this weekend finishing 6th out of 22 divers in the 3 meter dive with 382.10 points and 8th of 26 divers in the 1 meter dive with 389.35 points.
Lenora Walter '11 (Santa Ynez, CA) placed 4th in the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.84) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:10.90). Lily Seidman '11 (Westfield, IN) took 7th in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.35) and 8th in the 200 yard butterfly (2:18.98).
Smith finished 8th in the 800 (8:23.46) yard freestyle relay and in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Racing for Smith in the 800 were Christine Dzialo '10 (Belchertown, MA), Alex Page '12 (Brookline, MA), Walter, and Seidman. Swimming in the 400 were Francesca Kotey '09 (Gainesville, FL), Walter, Dzialo, and Seidman.
Walter, Jenny Prince '12 (Ardsley, NY), Seidman, and Dzialo took 9th in the 400 yard medley relay (4:20.68). Kotey, Page, Dzialo, and Seidman finished 10th in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.23, while Walter, Prince, Page, and Kotey placed 10th in the 200 yard medley relay (2:01.06).
Springfield College was crowed NEWMAC Champions with 872.5 points--leading the second-place team by over 200 points. Overall, Smith placed 9th out of 10 teams with 175.5 total points on the weekend.
