Swimming & Diving Defeats Husson on Senior Day
Northampton, MA: The Smith College swimming and diving team defeated Husson University of Bangor, ME 146-99 in a non-conference dual meet this afternoon in Northampton, MA. With the win, the Pioneers improve their dual meet record to 3-3 on the season.
The meet started off with head coach, Kim Bierwert honoring the two seniors--Cheri Hardy '09 (Lincoln, AR) and Francesca Kotey '09 (Gainsville, FL)--as they prepared to swim their final meet in Dalton Pool. Kotey finished her home meet career with three first-place finishes: 50 yeard freestyle (26.85), 50 yard butterfly (30.02), and swimming anchor in the 200 yard medley relay with teammates Alex Page '12 (Brookline, MA), Reyna Levine '11 (Kalamazoo, MI), and Lenora Walter '11 (Santa Ynez, CA) (2:04.63). Hardy placed fourth in the 200 yard IM at a time of 3:04.73.
Alexis Roehrich '11 (Eau Claire, WI) qualified for NCAA Championships in the 3 meter dive as she finished first this afternoon with a score of 268.90. Roehrich also placed first in the 1 meter dive with a score of 247.50.
Also taking first-place finishes for Smith were Hannah Bromfield '12 (Brookline, MA) in the 200 yard freestyle (2:15.47), Lilly Seidman '11 (Westfield, IN) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.82) and the100 yard freestyle (57.42), Levine in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.02), Christine Dzialo '10 (Belchertown, MA) in the 200 yard backstroke (2:26.62) and the 200 yard IM (2:27.54), Jenny Prince '12 (Ardsley, NY) in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:53.29).
The Pioneers will next compete Saturday, February 7 as they travel to South Hadley to take on Mount Holyoke at 1 pm.
