Smith Swimming and Diving Competes in Day 1 of Seven Sisters

Northampton, MA: At the conclusion of day one of the annual Seven Sisters Swimming and Diving Championship, held this year at Vassar College, the Pioneers are in 3rd place overall with a team score of 429.

Smith received stand out performances from several team members en route to their third place standing. Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN) took home the Pioneers lone first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.46. She also finished second in the 200 yard IM (2:19.17). Teammate Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA) had a strong performance in the 200 yard free, taking home second place with a time of 2:03.97. Rachel Levine (Kalamazoo, MI) took home third place in the 400 yard IM (5:08.05). Additionally, finishing fifth in their respective events were Rachel Dorset (Stratford, CT) in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.02), Lenora Walter (Santa Ynez, CA) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.24), and Francesca Kotey (Gainesville, FL) in the 50 free (26.81).

In the relay events, the Pioneers took home second place in both the 200 and 800 yard freestyle events. The 200 yard team, consistingof Kotey, Dorset, Dzialo, and Seidman, had a time of 1:46.71. In the 800 yard race the team consisiting of Dorset, Levine, Dzialo, and Seidman had a time of 8:32.43. The 400 yard medley relay team of Walter, Levine, Seidman, and Kotey took home third place with a time of 4:26.59. Additionally, Walter, Levine, Dorset, and Kotey finished fourth in the 200 yard medley relay (2:02.61).

In the 1-meter diving event Alexis Roehrich (Eau Claire, WI) took home second place with a score of 234.75. Amanda Lineweber (Suffield, CT) placed fourth with a score of 104.45.

The Pioneers return to the pool Sunday to compete in the final day of the meet.
