Smith Swimming Drops Close Meet to Wellesley

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell to the Blue of Wellesley College in duel meet this afternoon by a score of 159-132. With the loss, Smith drops to 2-3 while Wellesley now stands at 4-3 on the year.

In the losing effort, Smith received stand out performances from several athletes. Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN) led the way with three first place finishes in the 100 yard butterfly (1:02.89), 200 yard butterfly (2:18.73), and the 200 yard IM (2:21.11). Lenora Walter (Santa Ynez, CA) finished with first place victories in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.84) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:19.34). Teammate Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA) took home first place in the 200 yard free (2:05.92), second place in the 500 yard free (5:45.43), and third place in the 50 free (27.04). Francesca Kotey (Gainesville, FL) finished second in the 50 yard free (26.08) and the 100 yard free (59.61). Additionally, Reyna Levine (Kalamazoo, MI) took home second place in both the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.47) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:45.18). Rachel Dorset (Stratford, CT) also put forth a solid effort for the Pioneers finishing second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.90) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:10.06).

Smith also had two relay teams take home first place. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Kotey, Walter, Seidman, and Dzialo finished first with a time of 1:46.96. Additionally, the 200 yard medley team of Walter, Levine, Dorset, and Kotey took first place with a time of 2:01.06.

In the diving portion of the meet, Kate Sorenson (Bolton, MA), of Wellesley, took home first place in the 1-meter and 3-meter with scores of 273.70 and 273.65 respectively. For the Pioneers, Alexis Roehrich (Eau Claire, WI) took home second place in both events with a score of 207.40 in the 1-meter and 239.90 in the 3-meter, while Amanda Lineweber (Suffield, CT) rounded out the 1-meter with a score of 104.45.

Smith returns to action January 24-25th as they travel to Vassar for the Seven Sisters Championship.
