Squash Finishes Invitational with Matches Against Colby and Wesleyan

Northampton, MA: The Smith/Mount Holyoke Squash Invitational came to a close this afternoon with the Pioneers hosting the final two matches against Colby College and Wesleyan University.

Smith dropped its' first match against Colby 9-0. Although Shanita Williams '10 (Boston, MA) lost to Colby's Samantha Smith 3-1, the number one match proved to be an exciting one to watch. Williams took a close first game 9-7, but Smith was able to quickly take the second game to tie the match at 1-1. The next two games were full of long rallies and exchanged services. Williams fought hard in an attempt to force a fifth game, but Smith managed to come out on top with a 9-7 fourth game victory to close out the match at 3-1.

In the final match of the day the Cardinals of Wesleyan were able to take the 9-0 win over the Pioneers. 

Smith will travel to Mount Holyoke next weekend as they participate in the Seven Sisters' Squash Championship on Saturday, January 31.
