Soccer Falls at Springfield

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Springfield College 4-0 last night in Springfield. The victory gave the Pride the number one seed in the conference championship (12-3-2, 7-1-1) while the loss ended the season for Smith (2-13-2, 1-6-2).

Springfield scored its first goal in the 35th minute of action when Kayla Thibeault sailed the ball over the Pioneer's defense and found Lauren Peltier who went one-on-one with Smith keeper Lauren Bachtel (Dulbin, OH) and put the ball in the lower left corner. With just a little over a minute remaining in the first half, Nicole Baker fired a shot into the upper left corner of the net to give the Pride a 2-0 halftime advantage.

Nicole Hanewich and Jess Prencipe scored the second half goals for the Pride who outshot Smith 23-2 for the game.  Bachtel made 8 saves in goal while Sue Jenny made one for Springfield.
