Smith Soccers Ties MIT in Double Overtime Effort

Northampton, MA: The Engineers of MIT and the Pioneers tied 0-0 this afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition. With the tie, Smith's record stands at 2-11-1 (1-4-1) while the Engineers are now 4-7-2 (2-2-2) on the year.

Despite playing hard for 110:00 minutes neither team was able to find the back of the net. Each squad managed four shots on goal for the afternoon, but none were converted. The offenses put forth a solid effort in the two overtimes with each team creating a good scoring opportunity. However, each time the defenses were able to make a stop.

Offensively, MIT was led by Lauren Hernley (Elizabethtown, PA) who finished with four shots, two on goal. The Pioneers were led by Robin Chang (Palo Alto, CA) who managed 3 shots, one on goal. Each goaltender, Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) for Smith, and Stephanie Brenman (Newtown, MA) for MIT, made 4 saves on the day.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday October 21st as they travel to WPI for a 7 pm kickoff.
