Clark Soccer Defeats Smith 2-0

Northampton, MA: The Cougars of Clark University scored two early goals in the opening minutes of play this afternoon to defeat Smith 2-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition. With the victory, Clark improved to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in the NEWMAC while Smith fell to 2-11 and 1-4 in the conference.

In the third minute of play in the first half, midfielder Charlotte Bowman (Peterborough, NH) took a corner kick that deflected off a player to the feet of forward Molly Meehan (Scotch Plains, NY) who put the ball in the left corner of the goal.  Less than three minutes later, Clark scored again when  Sara Conway (Lynn, MA)  delivered a soft chip to sophomore Laura Hedden (Albany, NY) who tallied the second goal.  Clark continued to dominate in the first 45 minutes but Smith keeper Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) made four saves in goal to hold the Cougars to two goals.

Smith had a few opportunities to score in the second half but Joanna Clark (Windham, ME) made three saves for the Cougars that kept the Pioneers scoreless. 

The Pioneers will host MIT on Saturday, October 18 at 1 pm while hosts Wheaton at 1 p.m.
