Soccer Falls at Westfield State
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell 1-0 to non-conference opponent Westfield State College last night in Westfield. With the victory, the Owls improved to 6-3 while Smith dropped to 1-8.
The Owl's offense dominated play but Smith's defense kept them at bay until 6:20 remained in regulation when senior Jenn Leveille (Southampton, MA) took a shot that deflected off a Smith defender and slowly rolled just inside the right post. Smith keeper Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) made 12 saves while Jess Pieciak made one stop for the home team.
Smith will be in action again on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they resume New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Babson College.
