Smith Soccer Falls to Brandeis
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell to Brandeis University this afternoon 5-1 in a non-conference contest. With the victory, the Judges improved to 5-2-1 while Smith fell to 1-6.
Brandeis dominated play in the first half and scored two of its five goals in the first 45 minutes. First year Mimi Theodore (Walpole, MA) drew Smith keeper Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) to the left side of the goal and then put her shot in the back right corner for the first goal at the thirteen minute mark. Less than two minutes later, Francesca Shin (Bayside, NY) chipped the ball from the left side of the goal to midfielder Ellie Einhorn (Winter Park, FL) on the right side who found net.
In the second half, Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth, MA) converted a corner kick from Taryn Martiniello (Wilmington, MA) just minutes into the game for the Judges third goal. At the 56 minute mark, forward Melissa Gorenkoff (Woodbury, NY) found herself one-on-one with Bachtel. Gorenkoff drew her off the line and then dribbled past her for the fourth goal. The Judges final goal was scored in the 72nd minute on a shot by Kelly Doolittle (Bristol, CT) that sailed high into the back of the net. Less than two minutes later, Smith's Hailey Bird (Salt Lake City, UT) took a shot from the right of the goal that bounced off the hands of Brandeis keeper HillaryRosenzweig (Boca Raton, FL) and into the goal for the Pioneers' lone goal.
The Pioneers travel to Wellesley College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest while Brandeis will visit Wellesley on October 1 at 4 p.m.
