Soccer Falls at Wesleyan

Middletown, CT: Although the Pioneers held Wesleyan scoreless for the first half, the Cardinals scored two second half goals to defeat Smith 2-0 yesterday in Middletown, Connecticut.

Wesleyan scored its first goal at the 56th minute when sophomore Cora Lautze took the ball down near the right side endline and fed the ball to Haley Baron who found the net. The Cardinals added an insurance goal in the 74th minute on a goal by Emma Nitzberg with assists by Marissa Trevisan and Hillary Biggs.

Smith keeper senior Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) picked up eight saves in 90 minutes of action while Clare Colton made two stops for the home team.   With the win, Wesleyan improved to 2-0-1 while Smith fell to 1-4.  The Pioneers will host Skidmore College on Saturday, September 20 at 1 pm.
