Soccer Falls to Moravian 3-0 in Season Opener
Wilkes-Barre, PA: The Pioneers opened their 2008 season with a 3-0 loss to Moravian College(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) at the Wilkes Tournament in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. With the victory, Moravian improved to 2-1 overall.
The greyhounds outshot Smith 19-3 and scored what would be the winning goal at the 27:50 mark on a breakaway by first year Arielle Caldas (Cherry Hills, NJ). Classmate Diana Feldman (York, PA) added to the lead at the 63 minute mark with an assist from Katelyn Killea (Chatham, NJ). With under three minutes remaining, Tracy Fitzpatrick (Wantage, NJ) scored when the ball hit the top of the post before going into the net.
Smith senior goalkeeper, Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) made four saves while Caitlin Corrigan (Perkasie, PA) made two stops for Moravian.
The Pioneers will face host Wilkes tomorrow at 11 am.
