Skidmore Lacrosse Defeats Smith 21-12
Northampton, MA: First year Phoebe Hopkins (Philadelphia, PA) scored four goals for Smith while Skidmore's Lindsay Stavola (Montauk, NY) and Lauren Madden (Huntington, NY) each tallied four in the Thoroughbred's 21-12 defeat of the Pioneers this evening in Northampton, Massachusetts. With the loss, Smith fell to 1-4 overall while Skidmore improved to 4-2.
Midfielder Kimberly Segalas (Stamford, CT) scored just 28 seconds into the first half to give Skidmore an early lead but Hopkins and Blair Rapalyea (Prides Crossing, MA) tallied back-to-back goals to put Smith ahead 2-1. Segalas scored again at the 23:28 mark to tie the game and a goal by Laura Flynn (Wellesley, MA) gave Skidmore the advantage once again. The Pioneers tallied the next three goals to put the home team ahead 5-3 with under fourteen minutes remaining. The teams exchanged goals the remainder of the half until 14 seconds remained. Madden converted two goals within twelve seconds to give Skidmore a 10-8 lead at the break.
The second half belonged to Skidmore as they scored 10 consecutive goals in a 13 minute time-frame to take the victory. Senior Courtney DeStefano (Rehoboth, MA) picked up the victory in goal while Chelsea Henderson (White Plains, NY) took the loss for Smith.
The Pioneers visit Western New England College on April 2 at 4 pm while Skidmore travels to Vassar for a 4 pm contest on April 3.
