Lacrosse Takes Loss From Allegheny College
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers wrap up their Spring break trip in West Palm Beach, Florida with a 16-5 loss to Allegheny College. The loss dropped Smith to 0-2 overall while the Gators improved to 2-3.
Allegheny took an early lead as they outscored Smith 6-1 in the opening fifteen minutes of the game and took a 9-3 lead into the half. Senior Blair Repalyea (Prides Crossing, MA) scored two of Smith's first half goals while first year Bethany McGann (Arlington, VA) registered Smith's final goal of the half. Eight different players scored for Allegheny with Jensen Paterson registering 2 goals and an assist for the Gators.
Smith opened up the second half scoring within the first three minutes with an unassisted goal by McGann. However, Allegheny's seven shot run over the course of the games final minutes proved too much for Smith. With the score 16-4 and 1:21 remaining, the Pioneers talllied their final goal, made by sophomore Alayna Liptak (Leeds, MA) with the assist by first year Sofia Nakhnikian-Weintraub (Eugene, OR). Junior Kaitlyn Murdough (Hinsdale, NH) also contributed for Smith, causing two turnovers.
