Babson Field Hockey Defeats Smith 3-0

Northampton, MA: The Smith Pioneers fell to Babson 3-0 this afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. With the win, Babson improved to its record to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC while the Pioneers fell to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Senior forward Nicole Cemelli (Towaco, NJ) led the Beavers with two goals.  Her first goal was tallied 10:48 into the game when she tipped a shot into the goal that had rebounded off Smith keeper Margaret Winter (Purchase, NY).  Her second goal was in the second half at the 40:04 mark as she pushed her shot from the right post into the left goal corner. Babson's other tally was in the first half when forward Jess Paladino (Turner, MA) scored off a free hit.

The Pioneers took eleven shots, six on goal, but Babson keeper Jessica Pashos (Winchester, MA) held Smith scoreless.  Smith keeper Margaret Winter made nine saves in the loss for the Pioneers.

Both teams will face NEWMAC opponents on Tuesday, October 7 when MIT travels to Babson and Smith visits Mount Holyoke.
