16 Riders Bring Home 14 Top 4 Ribbons; 5 Qualify for Regional Championships
Northampton, MA: The Smith College equestrian team placed third out of twelve schools today at the Amherst Show in Amherst, MA. Mount Holyoke College placed first with 47 points, UMASS followed in second with 28 points, and Smith tied Becker for third-place with 27 points.
Xiaoshuang Chen's '09 (Ningbo, China) performance in walk trot earned her the blue ribbon this afternoon. Nine riders for the Pioneers took home second-place ribbons in their respective events: Anya Bahros '11 (Norwell, MA) in novice flat, Morgan Brescia '11 (Seekonk, MA) in intermediate flat and novice over fences, Kathryn Mishkin '09 (Old Catham, NY) in intermediate flat, Abbigail Milnor-Sweetser '12 (Lancaster, PA) in novice flat, Susan Humphrey '10 (Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada) in walk, trot, canter, Martha Maloney-Huss '09 (Wilmington, DE) in novice over fences, Nicole Haseltine '12 (Los Angeles, CA) in open over fences, and Lizzy Jacobson, competing as an alumni, in over fences and flat. Grace Livingston '10 (Cleveland, OH) finished third in walk, trot, canter, while Abigail Cooper '11 (Chalfont, PA) also took a third-place finish in open flat. Finishing forth in walk, trot, canter was Laura Schneider '11 (Roscoe, MT).
Brescia (novice over fences), Maloney-Huss (novice over fences), Chen (walk trot), Livingston (walk, trot, canter), and Mishkin (intermediate flats) all qualified for the Regional Championships with their performances this afternoon.
