Equestrians Tie for Third at Mount Holyoke Show; Three Qualify for Regionals
Northampton, MA: Charlotte Ballantine (Alstead, NH), Christine Stine (East Dover, VT) and Kristyn Hall (New Town, OH) qualified for Regionals today at the Mount Holyoke IHSA Show in walk, trot, canter; intermediate flat and novice flat respectively.
The Pioneers had 15 of 22 riders finish in the top four of their classes. Winning blue ribbons were Martha Maloney-Huss (Wilmington, DE) in novice fences, Hall in novice flat and Liz Jacobson in alumnae flat. Taking home red ribbons for Smith were Nicole Haseltine (Los Angeles, CA) in open over fences, Lucy McAuliffe (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) in intermediate over fences, Ballantine in walk, trot, canter and Xiaoshuang Chen (Ningbo, China) in walk, trot.
Monica Brescia (Seekonk, MA), Susan Humphrey (Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada), Stine, Anya Barrows (Norwell, MA) and Jacobson had third place finishes in novice fences; walk, trot, canter; intermediate flat; novice flat and alumnae fences respectively. White ribbons were won by Hall (novice fences), Jennifer Chain (Sacramento, CA) and Laura Schneider (Roscoe, MT) in walk, trot.
The Pioneers tied with Williams for third place today with 25 points. Mount Holyoke won the show with 41 points, UMass was second with 40, and Becker fourth with 22 out of 12 schools. Smith will compete again on November 8 at Amherst.
