Field Hockey Falls at Wheaton
Northampton, MA: First year Sarah Knowles (North Kingstown, RI) scored off a penalty corner from Trina Campbell (San Anselmo, CA) in the thirty-third minute of play today at Wheaton, but the Lyons went on to win the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest 5-1. With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the NEWMAC while the Lyons improved to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in conference competition.
Although Smith put the first goal of the game on the board and took a 1-0 lead into halftime, it was the Lyons of Wheaton that dominated play as they outshot the visitors 18-6.
The Lyon's tallied all five goals in the second half led by Emily Asack who scored twice and Alisa Ardito who assisted on three goals. Sarah Knowle's twin sister, Hannah, scored the last goal for Wheaton. Sophomore Courtney Murphy (Northampton, MA) made four saves for Smith while Andrea Bagley made two for the Lyons.
The Pioneers host NEWMAC rival Springfield College on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6:30 pm.
