Morgan Brescia and Sarah Maxner Take Reserve Champion Honors at Smith Show
Northampton, MA: Morgan Brescia (Seekonk, MA) tied for Reserve Champion Overall High Point Rider and Sarah Maxner (Norwich, VT) took Novice Reserve Champion High Point Rider honors today at the IHSA show held today at Smith College.
Brescia was first in intermediate flat and second in novice over fences which tied her for Reserve Champion Overall High Point Rider. Maxner took Novice Reserve Champion High Point Rider with her third place in novice flat combined with her first place in novice over fences.
The Pioneers had seventeen of their twenty riders place in the top four today. First place ribbons went to Maxner in novice over fences, Grace Livingston (Cleveland,OH) in walk, trot, canter and Brescia in intermediate flat. Lindsey Gibbons (Bellingham, WA) and Martha MaloneyHuss (Wilmington, DE) took second in intermediate flat. Lucy McAuliffe (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) and Ryan Fogarty (Greenwich, CT) took second respectively in novice flat and open over fences. In addition to Maxner's third place finish, Kathryn Mishkin (Old Chatham, NY), Abigail Cooper (Chalfont, PA), Esme Rabin (Tiburon, CA), Mary Bordewieck (Bernardston, MA) all took home third place ribbons as did alumna Lizzy Jacobson. Winning fourth place ribbons were Anglea Nunez (Grantsville, MD), Nicole Haseltine (Los Angeles, CA) and Mishkin.
Only ten points separated the top five finishers out of eleven schools in team points. Mount Holyoke won the show with 37 points, Becker was second with 33, Williams third with 32, UMass fourth (29) and Smith finished in fifth with 27 points.
The equestrian team will compete again on Saturday, October 25th at the Mount Holyoke Show.
