Equestrians Qualify Two for Regionals in First Show
Northampton, MA: Sophomores Morgan Brescia (Seekonk, MA) and Anya Bahros (Norwell, MA) both qualified for Regionals today at the UMass Intercollegiate Horse Show. Bahros took second in walk, trot, canter while Brescia was first on the flat and third over fences.
The Pioneers had a very successful day as fourteen of twenty-one riders placed among the top four in their classes. Red ribbons were won by Susan Humphrey (Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada) in walk, trot, canter and by Kristyn Hall (New Town, OH) in novice flat. Abigail Gifford (Rutland, VT) and Grace Livingston (Cleveland, OH) brought home yellow ribbons in walk, trot, canter; Nicole Haseltine (Los Angeles, CA) and Abigail Cooper (Chalfont, PA) in open over fences and Lucy McAuliffe (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) in intermediate over fences. Fourth place finishers included Esme Rabin (Tiburon, CA) in intermediate over fences, Martha MaloneyHuss (Wilmington, DE) in novice over fences and intermediate flat and Christine Stine (East Dover, VT) in intermediate flat.
The Pioneers finished in fifth place among 12 schools with 21 points. Host UMass won the show with 43 followed by Mount Holyoke (39), Becker (24), Williams (22) and Smith.
