Twenty-One Riders Brought Home 15 top 4 Ribbons from UMass Horse Show

Northampton, MA: The Smith College Equestrian team finished third out of ten teams this afternoon at the University of Massachusetts horse show this afternoon in Amherst, MA.

Ten out of twelve equestrian teams in the region competed in the UMass Horse Show today. As the host team, UMass was the high-point college with 42 points, Mount Holyoke finished second with 36 points, and the Pioneers followed in third with 27 points.

Two riders took first-place finishes for the Pioneers. Sarah Maxer '10 (Norwich, VT) placed first in Over Fences, while teammate Kristyn Hall '09 (New Town, OH) took first in Novice Over Fences qualifying her for Regionals.

Second place finishers included Becky Nelson '11 (Milton, MA) in Walk-Trot, Susie Haas '09 (Acworth, NH) in Walk, Trot Canter (a Regional qualifying performance), Abigail Gifford '11 (Rutland, VT) in Walk, Trot Canter, Lucy McAuliffe '12 (Ho-Ho Kus, NJ) in novice Flat, Morgan Bescia '11 (Seekonk, MA) in Intermediate Flat, Abigail Cooper '11 (Chalfont, PA) in Open Flat, and Elizabeth Jacobson in Alumni Flat.

Jennifer Chain '09 (Sacramento, CA) finished third in Walk-Trot, Anya Bahros '11 (Norwell, MA) took third in Novice Flat. Abigail Milnor-Sweetser '12 (Lancaster, PA) finished third in Intermediate Over Fences, while Jacobson finished third in Alumni Over Fences.

Laura Jean Schneider '11 (Roscoe, MT) placed fourth in Walk-Trot, while Brescia finished fourth in Intermediate Over Fences.

Equestrian will next compete in the Mount Holyoke Show on Saturday, February 28 at 8:30 am.
