Swarthmore Wins Seven Sisters Cross Country Championship; Youngs of Smith Takes Individual Title Second Time In Her Career
Northampton, MA: The Swarthmore Garnet took first place today with 35 points to win their second title since 1989 in the 27th annual Seven Sisters Cross Country Championship held today at Smith College. Smith Senior Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) raced to her second individual title completing the 5K course today in 19:19.00. She won her first championship as a first year, finished eighth as a sophomore and second last year.
Smith finished second overall with 65 points followed by Vassar (73), Wellesley (78), Bryn Mawr (144) and Mount Holyoke with 145.
Swarthmore placed seven runners in the top seventeen to take this year's championship. Finishing in the top ten for Swarthmore were Nyika Corbett (Myrtle Point, OR), Melissa Frick (Swarthmore, PA) and Bess Ritter (Quaker Hill, CT). In addition to Youngs, scoring for the Pioneers in 8th place was Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA) with a time of 20:07.40, Hania Thomas-Adams (Deerfield, MA) came in 15th (20:35.00), Kristin Peck (Bethlehem, NY) was 20th (20:50.90) and Uli Botzojorns (Bolton, VT) finished 25th in 21:13.30.
