Eliza van Lennep Named All American

Northampton, MA: Senior Eliza van Lennep (Rindge, NH) has been named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)Pocock All American for the 2009 season. This award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division III institutions.

Van Lennep, who rowed at Smith all four years and was a co-captain this year, was in seat 5 in Smith's varsity boat and had the best 2,000 meter erg time (7:04) on the team. Coach Karen Klinger stated that "Eliza was never satisfied with mediocrity, she was part of the driving force behind her boat's continued gain in speed this year." The varsity eight won the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship; was 6th in the Grand Final of the New England Rowing Championship (NERC); was in 3rd place in the semifinals (going to the grand final) of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) before the final day of racing was cancelled; and finished tied for sixth place at the NCAA Division III Rowing Championships.
