Crew Participates in Spirit Regatta
Northampton, MA: Smith Crew raced Tufts, Wellesley and Simmons this afternoon in the second annual Spirit Regatta held in Boston, MA. The varsity eight won solidly over Wellesley in the heat and then over Tufts in the finals to capture the prized Spirit Trophy.
The second varsity eight placed second to Wellesley in their first race, losing by 4 seconds but managed to redeem themselves in the finals against Simmons (7:01.08) whom they beat with a time of 6:58.03. The third varsity eight captured 2nd place (7:08.89 and 7:29.09) in both their heat against Tufts (7:02.07) and the finals against Wellesley (7:03.59) respectively.
Smith's first novice boat had a tough start yet tight race against Tufts, coming in second with a time of 7:01.32. However, in the finals against Wellesley they managed to pull off a solid win in 7:07.32 compared to Wellesley's finish of 7:32.32. The Pioneers' second novice boat had a more challenging day facing a very fast Simmons and a tough Middlebury boat. They finished in 2nd place against both those opponents.
