Smith Basketball Defeats Wheelock College 71-41

Northampton, MA: The Smith College basketball team defeated Wheelock College 71-41 this evening in Northampton, MA. With the win Smith improves to 5-2 on the season, while Wheelock drops to 0-5.

The Pioneers were in control of the game from the start as first-half contributions came from an array of players to give Smith the 36-17 halftime lead.

Courtney Parker '09 (Ocean City, MD) led all scorers with 16 points to go along with 6 rebounds on the game, Meredith Murelli '09 (Litchfield, CY) pulled down 8 boards to lead all players in addition to her 7 points on the night, while Jessica Welk '11 (Arlington, WA) also found herself in double digits tonight with 10 points to help the Pioneers to their fifth win of the season.  

Sharrell Brown led Wheelock's offense with 12 points on the game.

The Pioneers will be back in action as they travel to Simmons College for a 1 pm tip-off.
