Basketball Participates in the "Pink Zone"
Northampton, MA: Smith hosts its "Pink Zone" event today in conjuction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "Pink Zone" initiative when the Pioneers host NEWMAC and valley rival Mount Holyoke College at 2 p.m. The WBCA began the "Pink Zone," formerly known as "Think Pink," in 2007 to help raise breast cancer awareness on college campuses and communities. Last year, over 1,200 teams participated, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising more than $930,000 to benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
The first 50 fans to make a donation will receive a free "Pink Zone" hat and pink t-shirts will be given out to the first 50 students who enter the gym. There will also be a "best pink outfit" contest at halftime with the winner receiving a Pioneer Spirit pack. The Smith players will be wearing pink t-shirts during warmup and pink shoelaces as well. All ten NEWMAC institutions are participating in fund raising efforts.
