Basketball Falls to WPI 54-34
Northampton, MA: The Smith College basketball team lost a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest against WPI, 54-34, this afternoon in Worcester, MA. With the loss the Pioneers fall to 8-12 overall and 2-8 in conference play, while the Engineers improve their record to 17-5 on the season and 9-1 in the NEWMAC.
As a team, the Pioneers were solid from three point range shooting 6-13 (46.2%). Smith's Anna Veltri '11 (W. Mildord, NJ) led all scorers with 12 points on the game including 3 of Smith's 6 from behind the arc. Meredith Murelli '09 (Litchfield, CT) led Smith in rebounds with 7 and assists with 4. Berit Schelde '10 (Holstebro, Denmark) added five points for the Pioneers.
Smith is back in action Tuesday, February 10 as they host Connecticut College in a non-conference match-up. WPI will next play Saturday, February 14 as they travel to Norton, MA to take on Wheaton College.
