Smith Volleyball Defeats Clark 3-0

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers defeated New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Clark University this evening 3-0. The victory improved Smith's overall record to 14-10 and 4-3 in conference competition while the Cougars fell to 5-15 overall and 1-6 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN) led the Pioneers with 10 kills, 16 assists and 4 service aces.  First year Lauren Martinez (Phoenix, AZ) dished out 20 assists and served 4 aces while Alexandra Rissi (Scottsdale, AZ) contributed with 8 kills and combined with Brianne Connizzo (Demarest, NJ) for 20 digs.

Clark was led by Emily Visone (W. Hempstead, NY) with 18 digs, Sarah Hunsucker (Orinda, CA) with 6 kills and 2 solo blocks and Kylie Kutney (Commerce, MI) with 16 assists.

The Pioneers will be in action again this weekend when they host the 16-team Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday night (5 & 7 pm) and Saturday (10 am, noon, 2 & 4 pm).
