Volleyball Defeats WPI 3-0
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers defeated New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent WPI 3-0 last night in Worcester. Setters Lauren Martinez (Phoeniz, AZ) and Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN) combined for 31 assists in the 30-18, 30-15, and 30-20 defeat of the Engineers.
Martinez also dished out 17 asssists while Minarich added 11 with 8 kills on the night. Catherine Shafer (Red Bluff, CA) tallied a game-high 25 digs along with 9 kills while Allison Jones (Winsted, CT) added 7 kills.
Kathryn Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) totaled 22 digs for WPI and Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) and Kate Woodman (Fairfield, CT) combined for 10 kills and 26 digs for the Engineers.
With the win, Smith improved its record to .500 (9-9) overall and 3-3 in the NEWMAC while WPI fell to 9-14 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
The Pioneers are back in action on Thursday night at 7 pm when they host Eastern Connecticut.
