Volleyball Defeats Babson 3-0

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers defeated Babson College 3-0 last night in a closely contested New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) volleyball match. With the win, Smith improved to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference while Babson fell to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in NEWMAC competition.

Senior co-captain Katie Shafer (Red Bluff, CA) led Smith with 14 kills, 11 digs and two service aces while sophomore Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN) added 12 kills with 29 assists in the 30-28, 32-30, 30-22 defeat of Babson.

The Beaver's Britt Libby (S. Windsor, CT) and Tina Kaindl (Niederteuten, Austria) each tallied seven kills while Ryan DePaoli (Kennesaw, GA) added 24 digs in the loss.

The Pioneers travel to valley rival Amherst College on Thursday night for a 7 pm match before competing in the Seven Sisters Championship at Vassar on Saturday and Sunday.
